The meaning of the word "Crunch" in rugby

The" Crunch "is the name traditionally given to the game rugby union team between France and England team during the 6 Nations tournament. The English expression meaning "crucial moment", is used as the confrontation between the two best teams in the northern hemisphere and is still an incredible intensity. By abuse of language, the term has been extended to other official meetings between the teams in world cup for example. By cons, it does not apply to any games preparations.
To demonstrate the importance of this confrontation with the connotation so special, the Eurostar Trophy was officially created in 2000 (under the RBS Six Nations). It was also to give some visibility to this meeting by imitating other international rugby trophies rewarding the winner of clashes between two nations, such as Calcutta Cup (England against Scotland) or Bledisloe Cup (New Zealand against Australia).

The term " Crunch" dates from the first game between these two teams March 22, 1906 at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
