The flag of Paraguay was adopted in 1842. However, the emblem and the proportions have changed several times throughout history. There are many stories about the origin of the flag of Paraguay, but the most common asserts that its colors match the colors of the uniforms of soldiers who helped the Paraguayan defense of Buenos Aires against the British invasions.
