The Song of the Week (42): The Perfect Circle (Michel Cloup)
Sometimes (it very rare) a song from this point resonates with some of your memories or some of your concerns, within seconds, it stays with you. Ideally, this is what we can expect from any work of art: it crystallizes and expresses a certain state of life, a feeling, an emotion. From this point of view, the latest single from Michel Cloup, "The Perfect Circle" (released last November 22), is a total success. The text evokes modesty and talent, the nostalgic experience of a drift session where every place is full of memories and weight of the past. Everything begins: "We drew a circle the center of the city / central / card we went out and we walked / all day all night / We drew a circle and came back / to all the places where we lived. "During this experience, melancholy ("I must say in recent months / I have a weight that slows somewhat / rhythm of my footsteps") gradually gives way to a form of appeasement and our two walkers complete their drift sitting on a bench in silence, one against the other. This beautiful text is supported by the music of the same level, quite refined: a battery (played by Patrice Cartier) and guitar (which is discrete , at times giving way to text), that's all. The result is a song that could shake your groove, at times, listening quietly letting himself be carried away by the music and text. The whole is more refined and more intimate than other projects of Michel Cloup as Diabologum or experience more exciting too. The entire album will be released in the month of May. It's gonna be a long wait until then ...
